Four east kent Districts and Kent county Council have formed a group, the primary aim of which is to develop more cost effective waste collection, processing and disposal services. Minimising costs and increasing recycling.

To reduce the carbon footprint of this waste disposal it has been decided that 100% of household waste will be disposed of within the county. To meet strict EU directives there is a strong requirement to reduce the amount of untreated or processed waste.

Working in partnership with Veolia Waste Management,TW services will provide sustainable waste disposal for Household waste initially for Dover and Shepway areas extending to include Canterbury and Thanet by 2013. Processing of separated collected recyclables and composting materials using the Anaerobic Digestion facility.

This proposal is a local solution to a local requirement. It will make a significant contribution towards the aim to further increase recycling and composting and to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

It is a fundamental plank of the East Kent Joint waste contract 2010 and the development of successful and efficient waste services in the area in the future.
